Private Hilltop Glass Treehouse style Home

This is a unique 3 bedroom 2.5 bath home that was designed by famed Costa Rican Studio Salagnac Arquitectos around 2011. It sits near the top of a moderately sloping ridgeline with steeper front and back sides, giving the feeling of being perche amongst the treetops. The home is part of a gated community of residences called Finca Montana, of which most if not all homes were designed by the same firm. After entering this gate, one drives along well paved roads, until reaching the sloping driveway, passing a neighboring house half way up. Upon reaching the home, there is just enough space for 2 car parking and some turnaround, and then one enters from the lower level on this end elevation.

Once through the large wood front door, one can either ascend up a floating open riser wood staircase to the main level above, or enter two large bedrooms that share a bathroom in between. Each of these bedrooms also has a large enclosed terrace adjacent to them for added interior space, while one also has access to its own toilet and sink, but no shower. Large sliding glass doors control the amount of potential natural ventilation and all of these lower rooms face towards the ocean. Also on the lower level is a dry storage room, as well as the mechanical room, with the water tank and pressure pump along with the pool equipment. The total habitable space on this level measures about 103 sm or 1,030 sf.

At the top of the stairs, one can turn to the right and enter into the main space that combines living room, kitchen and dining, with a small half bath and laundry room tucked into one corner. The main space has wall to wall and floor to ceiling glass facing in all directions, with a warm hardwood ceiling, making the larger cantilevering roof appear to float on slender round concrete columns. A previous outdoor patio was also enclosed by sliding glass doors, again allowing for either additional interior space, or separation from conditioned and naturally ventilated zones. This interior area measures approximately 113sm, or 1,130sf.

Alternately one can continue straight at the top of the stairs towards the master suite, which is housed within a separate pavilion accessed via an enclosed glass bridge over the swimming pool. Here one encounters an enclosed sitting zone prior to entering the bedroom area, which then has an outdoor covered patio towards the ocean view. In all likely-hood, during rainy season when the trees are full of leaves, one sees little of the long view, while in the dry season when many of the trees become quite dry, the views open up in both directions. Attached to the bedroom is an ample master bath with 2 sinks, toilet and shower. This master suite measures about 34sm or 240sf.

From the master terrace, one can walk back over the pool via another bridge to a small outdoor terrace and access to the swimming pool, which stretches end to end across the width of the house, providing the ability not just to cool off but to swim some laps. Large wide steps that align with the living room provide entry, and a linear fountain on the stone wall provides some white noise. The pool measures 3m wide by 11m long, so with the steps come to 36sm or 360sf. The terraces, partially covered, add another 29sm or 290sf of space.

Thus the home has about 315 square meter of space or 3,150 square feet, all in a quiet spot that is only 10-15 minutes to Nosara or Guillones Beach, and the shopping, wellness retreat centers and restaurants that populate this popular destination Nicoysa Peninsula's Pacific coast.
